Custom Terrain

With this tool you can draw a terrain profile. Click in the image to place points, from left to right. The profile will extend infinitely from both extremes. With a single point, the profile will be flat, with two points you achieve sloping terrain, and with several points you can model hilly terrain, a rock wall on one side, etc.

When drawing, you do not need to take the trench into account. Vertically, this will automatically be placed based on the lowest part of the terrain, and horizontally you can manually move the trench afterwards.

Hold ctrl or shift to limit to horizontal or vertical lines. Click on the last point to undo it. Press esc to cancel. To approve, double-click or press enter. Remember that you can both zoom with the mouse wheel and pan with the right mouse button while drawing. If you have access to exact measurements for the desired terrain profile, it may be a good idea to draw up temporary distance measurements for this, before you draw the actual terrain profile.

Example of Custom Terrain:

Start by changing “Type of terrain” from “Flat & uniform” to “Custom”. alt text

This enables the option “Draw new terrain” and the possibility to draw a new “Terrain profile” and a “Terrain zone”.

Terrain Profile

When adding a new “Terrain profile” start drawing from the left and remember that the new profile will extend infinitely from both extremes. Start from the left, on the ground level and set the first angle with point no. two. Continue to draw the new profile. alt text

After completing the new profile the trench will move after the new terrain. alt text

To delete the old terrain profile, find the terrain in the list of terrains and use the delete feature. The old terrain profile will be replaced with air. alt text

To edit the terrain profile, simply use the “Edit terrain” feature.

Terrain Zone

With this tool you can draw a defined zone in the terrain. Click in the image to place points that will be connected to a polygon.

When drawing, you do not need to take the trench into account. Vertically, this will automatically be placed based on the lowest part of the terrain, and horizontally you can manually move the trench afterwards.

Draw the new polygon inside the existing terrain and you will be able to change the thermal resistivity of the specific area. There is an option to choose if the new zone is to “Overlap the trench”. A terrain zone with “overlap the trench” enabled will be favored over the trench. This can be used, among other things, to model complicated, customized top covering. If the terrain zone does not cross the trench, this setting has no effect.
