Create your own Components

Grøft Design^® comes with an extensive component library. If there is a particular component that is missing, you can add it yourself with the Component Designer, or ask us to add it for you.

The Component Designer/database is found on the Grøft Design^® main page.

Create your own Cables

To get started you need a detailed cable datasheet and ampacity rating from the cable manufacturer.

Alternativily you can select a cable in a trench cross section and click administer.

Often the easiest way to get started is to copy an existing cable and modify that.

Once you have you new cable you can add layes, move them around, and make changes as you like.

Notice: Simulations in Grøft Design^® are done using Finite Element Analysis. For Milliken cables this very timeconsuming, so an simplified model is used based on IEC formulas.

Document the Cable

You can add documentation for your cables. Both by uploading documentation and adding links to online documentation.

Linking is particularly usefull if you have documentation that you need to restrict access to by linking to your own content management system.

Verify the Cable

When designing a cable its important to verify the design. Under the verification tab in the Cable Designer you can create simulations that verifies the cable temperature for a given current.

Create your own Pipes

Use the same approach as for cables. Adjust the material specifications, if known, to improve the accuracy of the simulation.

Create your own Time Series

It is possible to add your own time series, either by importing them from an Excel or CSV file or by entering them manually into the system.

The video tutorial demonstrates how.

All predefined time series values are converted to relative values. Load-specific series can be added to the specific scenario.

Create you own Custom Items

Custom items let you define physical objects in the trench cross-section that go beyond standard cables and pipes — such as cable troughs, ducts, or proprietary installation components. To create a custom item, open the Component Designer from the Grøft Design® main page and select Custom Items. You can define the geometry of the item by choosing from predefined shapes or drawing your own, and assign material properties to control how the item affects thermal simulations. Custom items can be saved to the component database, making them reusable across projects and available to other users in your organization.

Cavities

A custom item can have one or more cavities — hollow areas inside the item where cables or other objects can be placed. Cables and items placed inside a cavity are automatically positioned within it, enabling drag and drop and reducing the need for manual free placement.

Share your Creation

Items are private by default. To make a custom item available to others, click Change permissions in the Component Designer.
